There seems to always be a new diet or health trend coming out. From paleo to keto.. to mushroom tea and celery’s hard to know which one is right for you..and which ones actually work! The word “diet” is a word I try to avoid using myself. It is always associated with restriction and has a negative connotation when in reality..a “diet” can be fun! Let’s take a moment to look back at the definition of diet (Merriam Webster has a few): food and drink regularly provided or consumed, habitual nourishment, the kind and amount of food prescribed for a person or animal for a special reason. The next time you’re thinking of starting a new diet, remember what a diet really means and start off with a positive mindset, excited about the change and journey you are about to experience! Do your research before committing to a new diet or trend and keep in mind that what works for someone else, might not work for you! Kim Kardashian might be doing great living off celery juice but your health needs may be different. Check in with your doctor as well to discuss your new diet, how it may affect any current health conditions you have or medication you are taking AND if there is actually any science to back up the latest diet trend. Now the fun part! Make your new diet exciting! Buy or rent some recipe books to keep things interesting, join social media groups with like-minded people who have similar goals to you (and may be experiencing some of the same struggles), reward yourself when committing to your new diet (and try not to make the reward food) and remember, you’re making a big (but positive) lifestyle change, take the time to find what is right for you instead of rushing to hop on the latest trend. Doing your research will be worth it in the end!
